Today I (along with about 12 thousand other people) attended a lecture by his holiness, the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. The Buddhist leader is - to put it simply - an inspiration to hear speak. This lecture marks his sixth visit to the UW campus, and I was fortunate enough to get a ticket (thanks Tim!).
He spoke for about two hours about a distinctive path to happiness, which is found through compassion. I couldn't help but find myself inspired by the simplicity of his message and speaking style. He offered an optimistic outlook with a spiritually logical approach to happiness.
Now the Dalai Lama is meeting with Bush. Why on earth would the Dalai Lama, who is widely acclaimed as a man of peace, lower himself by shaking hands with the world’s biggest warmonger, war criminal, the Butcher of Baghdad and Fallujah, George W. Bush? I just lost any shred of respect I had for the Dalai Lama.
